Tottenham Hotspur defender Juan Foyth on his ‘dream’ to play with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi

Juan Foyth has played a number of games for Tottenham Hotspur this season.

Tottenham defender Juan Foyth has expressed his desire to play with Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi on the international stage.

The 21-year-old does have one cap for Argentina when he made his debut for his home country in November against Mexico, but Messi was absent for that fixture, according to transfermarkt.

Centre-back Foyth has been used by Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino in a sporadic fashion during this campaign as he will be hoping to get more games under his belt as the season progresses.

Nonetheless, the highly-rated youngster spoke about his ‘dream’ of playing alongside one of the greatest players to have a graced a football pitch.

“It would be a dream,” said Foyth, as quoted by ESPN. “I trained with him when I played for the under-20s. We trained between the U20s and the first team.

“It was unbelievable. It was just training so it was more calm but he was still dribbling past players when he wants. He’s a great player.”

There is no doubt that Foyth will earn more opportunities on the international stage and thus increasing his chances of playing alongside Messi.

Over the course of this season, he has played nine games in all competitions, but he has not played in the Premier League since his side’s 5-0 win over Bournemouth in December.

Considering the quality of players ahead of him in the pecking order, it is a little tough for the youngster to break into the starting XI and keep his place in the side.
